SISSS00128 Group Exercise Leader (GEL), is a set of skills that will enable you to lead predesigned group exercise sessions in a variety of locations.

Group Exercise Leader (GEL) is a fast and affordable pathway for those wishing to acquire a base fitness industry qualification in order to teach pre designed group fitness classes.

Successfully completing this course will allow you to seek employment as a qualified group fitness instructor. You will be able to take your skills and work anywhere in Australia, or move into further study to expand your options within the fitness industry.

DURATION:

Up to 6 months

DELIVERY METHOD:

Online Learning:  All of our theory learning is delivered via our online learning centre that you can log in to 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  The learning material includes videos, PowerPoint Presentations and Online Text Books.  You can choose to watch the videos on your phone or read the documents on your tablet, PC or print out hard copies.  The choice is yours.

Practice Sessions:  The practice sessions allow you to gain the confidence of working with real clients.  You will take part in a number of group fitness sessions and then deliver your own series of three sessions.  These sessions will take a minimum of 10 hours to complete.  You will create a portfolio along the way and have this signed off by your workplace supervisor.

Practical Assessment:  The final step in the process is to complete the live Practical Assessment.  This step can be completed by submission of your recorded Practice Sessions or by attending a Practical Assessment Day.  These sessions are held in various locations and specific dates throughout the year.

Note: HLTAID011 Provide First Aid need to be completed with an external specialist provider and a copy of the statement of attainment provided to us for Credit Transfer.  There is no additional charge for Credit Transfer.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

While there are no formal entry requirements, we would recommend the following:

  • Be at least 16 years of age
  • Experience participating in the pre designed group fitness program you intend on instructing (minimum of five sessions as a participant),
  • Access to a facility that will support you in doing the three practical sessions required as part of your practical assessment, plus
  • Access to approved pre designed session plans for the program that you intend on instructing (examples include MOSSA, Les Mills, Radical Fitness, Zumba and Metafit)

GRADUATE OPPORTUNITIES

Completion of the Group Exercise Leader (GEL) Skillset allows you to join registration bodies including AUSactive, Physical Activity Australia and  FITREC.  At this completion of this course, you will receive your qualifications as a Group Exercise Leader along with a Statement of Attainment for each unit of comptency included in this program.

We have designed our qualification so that the units that you complete are counted towards SIS30321 Certificate III in Fitness.  This means that you will have already completed 4 of the 15 units required to become a fully qualified fitness instructur and design your own group fitness programs.
